Northern Rock is a Northern Rock. This means that the people in the North are the ones who benefit most, I should have thought. HBOS is an acronym for the Halifax/Bank of Scotland. Now it is allowed to expand and not go under, I should have thought that the people who benefited were the people of Halifax and environs and also the Scots? As they can't both be right, one of them must either be wrong or not telling the truth. I understood making false statements to the market to be a crime. I'm entirely happy to believe the Chancellor doesn't know what he is talking about (indeed claims to the contrary seems nonsensical) but we really do need to find out what the FSA was up to and on whose orders were they acting?
