The dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning

The sad death of Katie Haines from Wokingham from carbon monoxide poisoning has led to the establishment of a charity, The Katie Haines Memorial trust.

The attached video records its work. I support these efforts to highlight this threat, with a view to cutting the risks for others.

What does this charity do? Someone turned up and fitted a CO detector in my house free of charge and replace it every few years. Is this the organisation that pays for that?

The Katie Haines Memorial Trust was set up following the death of our daughter Katie. Our aim is to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning – and that is why we decided to make the film. Only some landlords provide CO alarms for their tenants and we are campaigning for legislation to make this mandatory. We have provided some detectors free of charge through Independent Age. The charity Carbon Monoxide Awareness will be launching their 7th National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week on Monday 19th November.

The week runs Monday 19th – Sunday 25th November 2012. The charity is run “entirely” by volunteers. Who do all they can to raise awareness about the dangers of Carbon Monoxide while supporting those who have been poisoned by this silent killer. During Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week the charity’s chair and president visit London, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South Wales and the Northwest.

The charity has produced a Carbon Monoxide phone app which can be downloaded free of charge from the charity’s website: http://www.covictim.org
