UK Unemployment fell by 167,000 over the last quarter. There are 1.3 million additional jobs compared to May 2010. The claimant count, those claiming unemployed benefits, is down to 1.25m.
In Wokingham I am pleased to report unemployment is down to 1% or 540 people. There are jobs available. Wokingham has the eighth lowest unemployment of all the Parliamentary comstituencies in the country.

If I was a leftie I would be outraged as every new job means that person is no longer as beholding to the state as he was when he/she was unemployed so may not now vote Labour. So I would clamour for the minimum wage to be raised to slow down the rate of unemployment rising even reversing it which hits the poorest hardest who are Labours core voters but improves the wages of those already in work. Hang on no need the Conservatives are already doing that for me. Still that will please the low paid who already have jobs but may in the long run see them losing them which wont please them at all.

Unless they’re in a low paid job, in which case they’ll still be claiming housing benefit and most likely tax credits. Given that the Conservatives are promising to cut both the low paid still have a strong incentive to vote Labour.

These figures are only falling because the unemployment statistics are being heavily manipulated by the government. This is done in 3 ways:
1) Only listing those registered with the Jobcentre as unemployed, which removes anyone who is unemployed but not claiming benefits from the statistics.
2) Introducing numerous barriers to prevent people claiming benefits to ensure that as few people as possible are registered with the Jobcentre. The most popular method introduced by Ian Duncan Smith is to sanction people for years. That’s why 600,000 people have 3 year long benefit sanctions.
3) Sending the unemployed on pointless courses such as the 2 year long Work Programme or the 4 week long Mandatory Work Activity. Anyone on these courses isn’t classified as unemployed, even though they’re still claiming benefits.
So far the government has wasted over £5 billion on these courses to hide just how bad the levels of unemployment are.

I’m not saying the new jobs are fictional. I’m saying that unemployment is falling because the number of unemployed people is being manipulated.
