Two soul mates who leave the plastic nonentities of this parliament dead in the water . Drive and the passion for politics make these men great.
No wonder Boris dare not let them close to power , they ooze good sense and can express themselves brilliantly
Bravo
Nottingham Lad Himself October 26, 2021
It is the people who will not let Farage close to power.
Seven times at least he has stood as an MP, and every time he has been rejected.
In any case, he’s only ever been interested in parroting Daily Express headlines on TV, or in making paper planes and flicking food at the European Union Parliament, in return for a seven-figure mix of salary and expenses.
You’d never find him doing the quiet hard work of the many good MPs that we do actually have, so they chose wisely.
Peter2 October 26, 2021
You hate him because he was a leading person who achieved Brexit NHL
Understandable, but time for you to let go.
jerry October 27, 2021
@Peter2; Mr Farage didn’t advance Brexit one jot, how could he?
On the other hand people such as our host, Bill Cash, IDS etc, using (mostly) well reasoned and researched arguments against our EU membership, with votes were it mattered, in the UK parliament, achieved Brexit.. If you want to cite UKIP members who did have the necessary influence over what the UK govt or parliament did then you’ll need to talk about the likes of Mark Reckless & Douglas Carswell in the Commons, Lord Pearson & Lord Willoughby.in the Lords.
Peter2 October 27, 2021
Come off it Jerry.
Without the pressure of votes going off to UKIP Cameron would never have agreed to holding a referendum.
Yes there were many great advocates in the Conservative party and other MPs who added to that pressure.
jerry October 28, 2021
Come off it Peter2, we all know you are smitten with all things UKIP but history is the judge here, not partisan opinion.
The only result all those votes for UKIP had was to keep the UK in the EU, after all Farage even admitted to it, ‘it was UKIP whot caused it’ -the 2010 coalition, or words to that effect! UKIP was increasingly on the EU/EP gravy train, they needed the exposure the EP gave, without which the party and their leader [1] were largely invisible, certainly before 2014. Why did Farage declare the referendum lost within an hour of the polls closing, hardly before a ballot had been counted, likely not even sorted, bar perhaps Gibraltar, polling insight or wishful thinking?
Post the 2015 general election, with Miliband resigning and Corbyn standing, gaining massive support and then being elected new leader, the real anti EU threat to the Conservative party was more likely to come from a resurgent anti EU left within the Labour, not UKIP.
Also do not forget, if it had not been for the eurosceptics in the Conservative party there would have been no UKIP, no referendum, and we would likely have Euros in our wallets.
[1] Lord Pearson excepted
Peter2 October 28, 2021
Your usual UKIP comment towards me again I see Jerry.
I have told you many times I am a Conservative Party supporter.
So stop your smears.
Your post is pedantic irrelevant waffle
My original point remains that Farage played a big part in Cameron finally giving in and calling a referendum which is why NHL hates him.
jerry October 28, 2021
@Peter2; So stop your smears.”
What smears?…
“Your post is pedantic irrelevant waffle”
So historical facts are now “pedantic irrelevant waffle”, how’s the weather on Mars!
Peter2 October 28, 2021
smears:-
You claim I am “smitten with all things UKIP”
despite me several times telling you that I have never voted for UKIP and that I am a long time supporter of the Conservatives.
Your post waffling about political history had no relevance to my original post.
I will say once more, yet again:-
Farage played an important part in Camerons decision to call the referendum.
Peter October 26, 2021
Great stuff. Opportunities for Sir John Redwood to criticise the Conservative leadership and cabinet but loyalty was evident and he was never going to say anything like that in public.
I wonder what beer they were drinking? I doubt Nigel has draught ale in the studio.
roger frederick parkin October 26, 2021
Well said. How I wish these two gentlemen were closer to power.
glen cullen October 26, 2021
Well said Andy
Dr John de los Angeles October 27, 2021
John Redwood is the best PM we never had! Imagine if he was the PM now instead of the buffoon Johnson, the worst PM the Conservatives have ever had!
Nottingham Lad Himself October 27, 2021
You have to ask the electors – many of whom elected Johnson because he sounds like a Grif Rhys Jones character – whether they would have voted for the Tories led by Sir John, really, don’t you?
The question was asked of the party members once before, whether they thought that they would…
Peter2 October 25, 2021
I really enjoyed that conversation between the two of you.
So different to how other political interviews are conducted these days, with constant interruptions, aggressive interviewers and the classic “so you are saying…”
Your enthusiasm at this rare opportunity to express your views was a joy to behold.
Nottingham Lad Himself October 26, 2021
I really enjoyed Farage’s implication that this country’s response to covid19 – one of the worst in the world for deaths per unit of population – was “not as bad as New Zealand’s” -just about the best in the world, and with almost none.
Just let that sink in. A hundred and fifty thousand dead, and he makes that claim.
villaking October 26, 2021
“One of the worst in the world for deaths per unit of population”? 27th in the world actually (see Worldometer) and this doesn’t factor in our more generous definition of Covid deaths being “death for any reason within 28 days of a Covid test”. Look at the data, your assumption that the severity and length of lockdowns correlates with a lower death rate doesn’t actually stand up, one might even argue that it is the reverse. A bit like the mask debate with advocates preferring comparisons to mask mandating nations like, say, France rather than one with with the same vaccination rates, age demographic etc like Wales. The reason why many people believe that lockdowns and masks work is because people like you continue to propogate these myths
Peter2 October 26, 2021
A ridiculous comparison NHL.
It will be interesting to see what happens to New Zealand when it eventually opens back up to the world.
An isolated nation with 5 million people and a population density of 18 per Km2 compared to the UK with 70 million people and a population density 0f 282 per Km2
Hugh Rose October 26, 2021
The average age of those that died with Covid is 82. The average age of death from all causes in this country is 81. It is not only about the death rate. The failure of the NHS to improve the wider health of the nation is a disaster – we need to improve the health of the nation and that includes mental health.
glen cullen October 26, 2021
Agree
Mark B October 26, 2021
Good morning.
GREAT INTERVIEW !! Thoroughly enjoyed it 🙂
It was especially pleasing to hear some historical facts. Saving the pound was undoubtedly a great achievement but in an ironic twist of fate we have also the ERM to thank. Whist the ERM did indeed cause much harm it showed us how important it was to control our own money and save Sterling.
We dodged a bullet there, Sir John. Cheers.
Lifelogic October 26, 2021
Charles Moore today:- Why would anybody become a soldier nowadays?
Why indeed?
Also watch Farage and David Starkey talking pints the other day. The yesterday (on Mike Graham) Javid was asked why people (even young people who had had covid already) were effectively being forced or blackmailed into taking a vaccine (that has some risk that for this group the risk certainly exceeds any benefits on average)?
The man had no sensible answer, indeed no answer at all.
Lifelogic October 26, 2021
Consistently right JR but alas largely ignored by the the Socialist, pro EU, net zero, tax and regulate to death leaders of this dire Tory Party.
turboterrier October 26, 2021
Great television. A live, open honest debate, both parties enjoying themselves, no sniping, hidden agendas, underwritten by respect and understanding for each others causes. The country could do with more of this type of relaxed interviews. Credit to both of them.
Fedupsoutherner October 26, 2021
Well done John on GB News this evening. You looked as though you enjoyed your pint with Farage. My only complaint is that you were too kind to Boris and his idiots in the cabinet. Farage was quite right when he said you should be in the cabinet. He and you are singing from the same hymn sheet.
Gordowalo October 26, 2021
Sir John,
You spoke well on Farage, GB News, yesterday evening. So did he. A civilized discussion between informed participants. Thank you. I hope that our political leaders saw and took note.
ChrisS October 26, 2021
As others have said, a great discussion and a reminder of two brilliant political careers
Why Nigel has never been given any award for his successful delivery of the Brexit referendum and the right result I simply don’t understand. The vindictiveness of Remainer forces in the civil service are clearly responsible.
William Long October 26, 2021
This was a great conversation, with a lot of very interesting information in it – I wish I thought that Boris had been watching. GB News is doing a great job.
X-Tory October 26, 2021
I enjoyed that. But Nigel is right: you have been shamefully ignored by Boris Johnson and the only explanation for that is that he is NOT a genuine Brexiteer and does not want you to have any real influence to expose and oppose his betrayal of Britain and the British people.
Atlas October 26, 2021
… Enjoyed it ! …
glen cullen October 26, 2021
What came across loud & clear was your unscripted passion and enthusiasm for our sovereignty, our people, our business and our future
Beats all the high taxes, doom & gloom coming from No10
jerry October 26, 2021
More shouting into the vacuum, the people who need to hear our host do not watch GB News!
Peter2 October 26, 2021
It is a recent extra option for the viewers.
Give it time Jerry.
People will decide to watch it if they want to.
Free choice and all that.
jerry October 26, 2021
@Peter2; “Give it time”
Meanwhile Rome burns…
Peter2 October 27, 2021
Gosh, I didn’t know that Jerry.
a-tracy October 26, 2021
I saw the show it was good, I’m not a Farage fan but I do enjoy his news slot and the fact he allows challengers on all the time. I wonder how the viewing figures of this news show compare to C4 news that is at the same time slot? I tried to google it, thinkbox has some viewing figures but not the news programs.
forthurst October 26, 2021
When Farage was leader of UKIP, JR refused to acknowledge his or his party’s existence. He then claimed that the globalist-owned unpatriotic Tory party was Eurosceptic. What Brexit illustrated was that the liblabcon does not represent the people by design so the litmus test of a sincere politician is that he supports a new electoral system that enables the people to choose, nor globalist Tory backers.
Reply It was Conservative votes in the Commons that secured the referendum
Barbara Fairweather October 27, 2021
Because of pressure from UKIP and his back benchers ( Call me Dave : Michael Ashcroft and Isobel Oakshott)
