Can Mr Burnham smash the gangs? Deport foreign criminals? Get unemployment down? Clean up our rivers? Take £300 off energy bills? Which will he do first?

Mr Burnham won over Labour MPs by promising them the change people need. So what is that change? More taxes, more borrowing, more dear energy, more people on benefits and more attacks on farms, factories and businesses will make it worse.

Why does MrBurnham refuse to come to Parliament next week to set out the changes he wants to make and to answer sone questions about his plans? Is he ashamed of his plans, or does he not know how to remedy the many government disasters?

Andy Burnham's steel gamble: Can £2.5bn reverse UK's industrial decline? Incoming PM is set to pursue the most interventionist policy for a generation. More pressure piles on British industry with new tariffs and quotas. Summary: ... Pls re-post ! ...

I asked yesterday how much will it cost to put in the extra pipes and sewage treatment to clean up our rivers. The Government said it did not know as that was for the companies. This is a highly regulated industry where the state Regulator has to approve the spend!

In the Lords Civil Aviation bill debate, government voted down a clause to propose growth for the sector. Provided no answers on airport expansion, flight slots or making UK more attractive compared to EU competitors. The Bill takes big regulatory powers with no policy or vision.

Rumours of higher taxes on capital gains and higher incomes is speeding more of the wealthy to leave the UK. If government wants to get more tax from the rich it needs to levy at rates people will stay to pay. People with plenty of money can afford air fares and a new home.

Rumours that Mr Miliband will let the Jackdaw gas field go ahead after a further delay. What he should do is change the law with emergency legislation to licence several new fields and restore exploration. That would help cut world CO 2, boosting UK tax revenues and growth.

The Chancellor proposes more loans for small businesses at high rates of interest. What business needs is lower taxes so their income covers all the bills. Making a decent profit is necessary to boost investment. Her high taxes undermine jobs, growth and investment.

The Chancellor giving the Mansion House speech tomorrow needs to have agreed her lines with Mr Burnham. No point in setting out policies he will dump the next week, misleading markets. Do not make the UK look more hopeless at economic management.

Plenty of discussion about more damaging tax rises to drive the better off out and leave the country poorer. No discussion of how to stop the waste and unwanted spending. Why give Chagos away with a dowry? Why no review of harmful net zero spending?

Mr Burnham should ask the Commons to sit for another week so he can as PM make an early statement of his changes, followed by statements on the next days from key Ministers. The new Chancellor needs to report on a financial plan to reassure bond markets over the summer.

Mr Burnham should drop the idea of living and working in Manchester. No 10 is one of the most secure places in the country with staff to protect the PM against threat. It would take time, people and a lot of money to make a Manchester office and home similarly secure.

If the new PM is serious about delivering the change people want, he needs to start now. Putting decisions off to the autumn, requesting more reviews means he will fail. We need answers now to defence spend, benefit reform, border control, growth and tax reductions.

@Peteihfd Yes but Commons is scheduled to go into recess on 16 July, Lords on 23 July. Burnham could require the Commons to sit until 23 July like the Lords so he could set out his agenda.

First Labour split of the Burnham era. Will they dilute immigration controls? More divisions to come on spending, taxes, benefits ,defence as the left sense an opportunity to push him further in the wrong direction.

Is Mr Burnham sending the Commons on holiday because he does not know what changes he wants to make, or because he wants to avoid difficult questions? He should make a statement about his plans and take questions from MPs.

Mr Burnham says he wants more UK industry but he plans to get closer to the EU. The EU will demand we pay them more and import more of their laws and goods. Those concessions will close more UK factories and farms.

Mr Burnham says he wants to bring back more industry to the UK. To do that he needs to scrap the ruinous net zero dear energy policies and abolish the carbon taxes. I see no likelihood of that. Labour is the party of factory closures and more imports.

We cannot afford Labour’s ruinously expensive nationalised industries. £21 bn a year for the railways, and £1 bn for steel and the Post Office. There is no plan for these to make a profit or generate cash as normal businesses have to do to pay the bills.

Taxpayers are paying £21 bn annually to the largely nationalised railway for just 2% of people’s trips. 59% of trips are by car. Drivers pay fuel duty, VAT and VED. Train fares are VAT free and trains pay just 6.48 p instead of 52.95p duty on diesel. Big tax loss from trains.

Plans for fully nationalised rail fail to tackle the faults of nationalised Network Rail that run the track, signals and property. The lack of digital signalling means too few train services at popular times when they could sell more tickets. Huge losses for the rest of the day.

Taxpayers are paying £600,000 salary to the Head of HS2 plus possible bonuses. The project is massively expensive and over budget. Why did HS2 pay £77 m for consultancy on cost and related matters last year? Can’t the CEO just cut the costs, starting with fewer consultants?

When the establishment gets it wrong they cover up or blame someone else. They never seem to learn from their repetitious and costly mistakes. Treasury /Bank boom bust of 1972-6, ERM boom/ bust 1987-92, great banking boom and crash 2005-10, inflation 2022-23.

Our nationalised water industry pre 1989 tipped raw sewage into the sea giving us dirty beaches and bathing waters without telling us. Privatisation set up a Regulator, requiring reports and control of discharges. The Regulator needs to do more.

Our nationalised water industry in the 1976 hot spell cut off mains water in some regions and made people queue to fill buckets at standpipes in the steet. It did not get the investment money it needed from governments always overspending elsewhere.

If Andy Burnham thinks the answer to the cost of living crisis is to put taxes up, he is heading for disaster. He needs to offer better value for money from the public sector, not put its costs and prices up.

People who want more nationalisation should look at the pot holed state of our roads. Fully nationalised there is too little road space. Users are ripped off with massive fuel taxes,Vehicle duty, high taxes on buying a new car, high parking charges in Council car parks.

Tony Blair is giving good advice to Andy Burnham. You cannot tax your way to prosperity. If Labour tries even higher taxes on wealth, investment and enterprise it will damage growth, generating less revenue from taxes. Wealth can walk away. Less wealth will be created.

Starmer’s trips abroad to give away our Diego Garcia base, lots of our money, and our right to make our own laws left us worse off and looking weak. He failed to advance peace in Ukraine or the Middle East, did nothing to re open the trade routes and fell out with the US.

Andy Burnham is right to condemn deindustrialisation. He is wrong to ignore the scale of it under the current Labour government, the huge damage done by the 1970s Labour government, by nationalisation, and by his party’s disastrous dear energy and high tax policies.

People make 29 times as many trips by car as by train despite government overtaxing car travel and making it miserable with road closures and badly managed roads. The fully nationalised railway needs to persuade Councils to make it easier to drive to a station and park.

Happy anniversary to the USA. It took many years to embed the fine sentiments that all men are equal, entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It took more battles to end slavery and enact the rights of women. It has been a great journey enriching the world.
