People do not want to rejoin the EU

I have permission to reproduce charts compiled by Facts4eu, so will now publish relevant ones to add to what I write. I collaborate with them over some of their excellent research.

1. Would you support rejoining on today’s terms, without all our opt-outs?

As is habitual with Trump, when he realises that he’s gone over the top with his heavy criticism of America’s NATO allies, he doubles down. Trump has repeatedly blamed Zelenskyy for starting the war with Russia and is now, again, threatening to cut off intelligence that enables Ukraine to target the Russian oil refineries. Because Zelenskyy won’t stop bombing them

Trump’s failed war on Iran has resulted in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for six months. This has enabled the global fossil fuel cartel – who never miss an opportunity for windfall profits – to inflict stonking price rises on us just as the northern hemisphere goes into winter

Apparently, Ukraine now needs a new president. Trump calls for Zelenskyy to resign after every “very good” telecon he has with his chum, the war criminal Putin. That will teach Zelenskyy not to stand up to Trump’s constant bullying! This is right out of Putin’s playbook

But Trump may have gone too far this time. As the American people decide who to vote for at their forthcoming mid-term elections, they will remember this weekend.

Trump is already making plans to seize ballot boxes after the polls close to secure “evidence” of electoral fraud, delaying the result for months. The Supreme Court – packed with Trump cronies – is on his side. We had better all start learning Russian.

I think our friend Sakara is saying that rejoining the EU is a non-issue. Quite correct, in my view.

The agreement Trump-Putin on the diesel is for 300,000 tonnes in October, 500,000 in November, 1 m in December, 3 m in January, possibly continuing with 3 m afterwards. For October to January that’s a total of 4.8 m tonnes equivalent to 33 to 35 millions of barrels. The global daily consumption of oil is 28-29 m barrels/day. So the agreement covers a bit more than one day of global consumption, roughly 4-5 days of US consumption.
Is this arithmetic also part of TDS? Or does DJT takes you for a ride?

Reply US diesel consumption is 4 m barrels a day. All increases in oil and distillates on the market help reduce prices.

          For info:

The following EU countries are still importing oil and gas from Russia:
France, Belgium, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia. And occasionally Netherlands, Portugal, Greece and Bulgaria.

When Trump and Putin gone, Western politics, geopolitics, Conservatism and capitalism will be on safer ground and the economies of USA, Russia and Western World in general will do much better!
Here’s counting down to the end to Trump’s Presidency and to Putin’s exit from politics. Then time for the champagne (and we’ll be able to return to the James Bond movies where the villains are only fictional)

Trump blamed Zelensky for not reaching a deal with Russia when it was available. That happens to be true, whether SG likes it or not. A very favourable deal was on the table in March 2022. Zelensky didn’t take it. Another one, slightly less favourable but better than whatever Ukraine will get now, was available in June 2024. Again, he didn’t take it. Trump is generally all over the place these days, but he got this one right.

      1. hefner
        October 12, 2026

A deal had never been available from Putin. The March 2022 ‘agreement’ that was arguably proposed was asking for Ukraine’s surrender.

Atlanticcouncil.org 05/11/2024 ‘Putin’s 2022 ‘peace proposal’ was a blueprint for the destruction of Ukraine’.

Why all the angst over recent media stories about the possibility of the UK re-joining the EU? While there is a faction on the left of the Labour party that would like to do so, there is no chance that it will happen before the next election.

Putting a proposal to rejoin into Labour’s election manifesto would attract votes against. Add these to pensioners outraged at losing the triple lock and Burnham could not be sure of winning.

Renegotiating a return to the EU would take years and years. We would be up against the likes of M Barnier again. Uncomfortable compromises on both sides would be needed. We would have to restart contributions to their budget. Re-joining would mean accepting freedom of movement again. The country would be flooded with Polish tradespeople and French economic refugees

The overriding issue of this weekend is the Ukraine war and the realisation that Trump, the leader of the free world, is a Russian asset. Let’s deal with this first.

In 2016, the Government of the day said the Referendum would be a once on a generation decision.
      What happened about that 🙂

Burnham might seek to rig elections (and referendums), starting with the abolition of photo ID requirements ?

I was out last night. Pretty broad audience of different voters I suppose. They played the Pink Floyd track with the lyric “mother should I trust the government ” and the whole place unprompted, fans of that band or not, in complete unison screamed “NO” at the top of their lungs. I have never seen the like of it. This should tell politicians about the mood of the country.

I don’t think Americans are very exercised about this. A sizeable number are increasingly fed up with the wars. What most want is cheaper hydrocarbons and an economic future.

As for me, I look at Iulia Mendel’s brave stance on her country’s collapse under her former boss Zelensky, and applaud. She and most Ukranians are willing to cede terrotory for peace. Let them have what they want, I say. Armistice, neutrality, elections that would almost certainly see Zelensky and the corrupt regime roundly rejected.

you only have to follow real people on real social media to know that real Americans are mostly concerned about out of control immigration, both legal and illegal, and the damage it has done, and is doing, to their tech industry.
at least the politicians and media there are responding.
compare and contrast to the UK where even the best media and politicians put it in the “too hard” bucket and refuse to engage with the detail.

It’s an unfortunate tribute to our propoganda regime that 45% would still favour “rejoining” the EU. The BBC is a like a malign virus that we simply can’t shake off. It constrains our growth, our freedom, our independence.

Lord JR (and Sakara) It’s an imaginary world you live in, believing we won’t be back in the EU .
The process has started. The back door has opened and negotiations have begun. The people will have no say. Just like the lies told by Heath 1972 “it’s only a Common market” This time it will be ‘just some trade deals’ And just like last time it will morph into full membership.
The difference will be no opt-outs, higher fees and more control over us.
It will take years, but it’s en-route.
    Democracy at it’s finest …………………………….

I am sure that Ian Duncan Smith (the prominent Conservative Brexiteer) latest efforts to ensure that the many unemployed benefits claimants in his Chingford and Wood Green constituency are actively seeking work will have secured their votes at the next election.

IDS only won last time because an independent labour person was de-selected for past social media posts. This split the Labour vote between her and the “official” Labour candidate. To the dismay of many, the Official Monster Raving Loony party failed to find a candidate to fight the electon

Larry, the 10 Downing Street cat has been incommunicado for a few days. This has been noticed by the various accredited hacks who hang around the British centre of power, hoping for a story

Larry, who narrowly missed being included in the recent British money notes re-design, has had a minor operation to remove a cyst at his vet’s. He is making a good recovery and has been provided with a litter tray, basket and warm bedding. And roast chicken dinners

Expect his presence in the background for the next Prime Ministerial resignation, which seem to happen quite regularly these days

If Burnham is reckless enough to seek re-election on a re-join EU manifesto there will be outrage especially when all the draconian conditions demanded by a failing EU are fully understood. The huge costs involved, a change of currency, handing over our fisheries, imposition of carbon tarrifs, a complete loss of parliamentary sovereignty, plus open borders people, I cannot see people supporting this nonsense. The EU want our money as net contributors as they struggle with low growth from deindustrialising, Merkel’s insane open border plan and her crazy decision to close Germany’s nuclear energy plants.

‘They are not yet conceptually willing to accept the burdens that come with membership’.

‘The 27-nation bloc had managed to get more done without a difficult ex with a penchant for special requests’.

‘Things are easier now. We are no longer having to constantly work around opt-outs on every file. There is more cohesion’.

‘The UK does not really get the full measure of how much the EU has changed over the last ten years’.

Another EU diplomat joked ‘Britons are perhaps more missed for their fine command of English, leaving EU documents riddled with stilted euro-speak’.

And Burnham? he lets it be known in the EU Owned Daily Telegraph that Brexit was only won by the interference of Russia. He claims UK Officials have told him Russia interfered with the vote.

He is build his case to bypass the People

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10/11/putin-burnham-russia-brexit-referendum/

What he didn’t note was Obama s interference on behalf of remain, or that Labour directly tried with staff and advisors to influence in the USA Election to keep out Trump.
Burnham ‘Hates’ the UK and its People with a passion and will say, or even lie to get his way.

It would be funny if it were not showing how deluded some on this blog are. Burnham did not talk to the Telegraph he said that on ‘The rest is politics’ podcast yesterday. The Telegraph just reported it as part of the news it chose to publish but on the agitated minds of some it is because it is now ‘The EU owned Daily Telegraph’. I p!ssed myself laughing at so much delirium tremens (or not tremens).
