I have written to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to urge him to press on with stronger measures to deal with illegal encampments, particularly the Government review on the ‘Irish model’ which criminalises trespass in certain circumstances. I have written in similar terms to the Home Secretary and the Justice Secretary.

I was riding passed a padlocked field last week and witnessed a car parked in the middle of the road with a caravan behind it. The occupants of the car were using an angle grinder to remove the padlock.
I was warned to “keep schtumm” as I went passed.
With this lack of respect for private property and flouting of the rules the laws need to be brought up to date and favour property owners.
