Labour’s leadership candidates all want to change things for the worse. More and higher taxes, more state borrowing, more regulations, more blaming business. That means more talent and money leaving the country, and slower growth.

The EU will not offer us anything worth having. They will send us a big bill if the UK government is stupid enough to bind us into more EU laws and schemes. We will be made to pay for more rules, taxes and charges which will harm us.

The UK has tariff free trade with the EU. We import far too much from them. We already run a huge deficit. We need a big move to make and grow more at home to cut the import costs to give us more national security of supply. More trade with them means more imports.

Trying to join an EU/UK single market in goods would mean breaking the Manifesto promise not to rejoin the single market. It would mean adopting many EU rules and sending them lots of taxpayer money to help them sell us more imports.

Wes Streeting said to be the ” right wing” candidate wants a big wealth tax and to re join the EU. What more will a “ left wing” candidate want? It look as if the PM, Streeting and Burnham all want higher taxes, more borrowing, more nationalisation and more EU laws and charges.

Net zero advocates say we are running short of water because of changing weather. The main reason is of course the failure to put in new reservoirs to cater for the large increase in population through migration this century. We had plenty of rain last winter.

Gordon Brown is a bad choice as PM ‘s financial adviser. Wrong to sell gold, missed out on £40 bn gain; bought RBS shares, which lost taxpayers £10.5 bn; recommended joining the EU’s ERM which lost UK more than £3bn. Today wrong to think closer ties to EU will boost growth.

The Chancellor’s cuts in tariffs and in VAT would not be allowed in the EU. Presumably that is why they are only temporary. EU re set means applying more EU laws and taxes that will stop us making these choices.

Delaying putting fuel duty up for a few months does not cut the cost of living or make petrol cheaper. The government should cut the tax rate as it is ripping motorists off with more VAT on fuel at current high prices.

Yet more delays and runaway spending on HS2. Why is it taking this government so long to find a way to speed the project up and cut the costs? They are making it worse, not better. A very bad advert for Nationalisation.

Asking supermarkets to freeze the prices of a few food items will not stop food inflation. The government needs a policy of Grow baby Grow, helping UK farmers to produce more food. End subsidies for wilding, cut taxes on energy and jobs, give farmers grants to grow more.

Why allow the import of fuels refined from Russian oil? We should get more of our own oil and gas out of the ground and keep our own refineries open. The government’s high taxes and oil bans make the UK rely on imports, losing us the jobs and tax revenue.

The Climate Change Committee are right we need to put in new reservoirs. The main reason we need more water is the big increase in population this century with no new water capacity put in.

The UK cannot afford to nationalise water as well as steel and rail and still stick to current fiscal rules. Steel and rail losses are already costing taxpayers far too much extra tax.

Many in Labour want more nationalisation. They might just condemn us to the lack of financial control of HS 2, to the computer skills of the nationalised Post Office and to the strikes of the train drivers for more of our essential services.

Andy Burnham says he doesn’t want to talk about rejoining the EU at the moment. Why? Isn’t it his view we were wrong to vote to leave an overtaxed, over regulated slow growth zone? Does he see there would need to be another referendum to go back in?

Turning HS 2 (High Speed 2 ) into Low Speed 1 would be the ultimate humiliation for this nationalised rail project. Massively over budget, drastically cut down and hopelessly delayed this project is a disaster for the idea of nationalised service.

Labour wants more nationalisation. With government steel losses running at £500 m a year, HS2 spending three times budget and the Post Office needing big subsidies, how much will more nationalisation cost? Which extra taxes will they impose to pay for it?
💬30↻69♥308❝2

Andy Burnham wants more nationalisation. That could bring more of the disastrous management styles of HS 2 and the Post Office. Wes Streeting wants more EU. That means higher carbon taxes and energy bills, slower growth and many new laws where we have no say.

Why does the government want to join Erasmus which will not help UK students go to the top world universities which are all non EU? Our Turing scheme allows them to go to top places in US and elsewhere. It also costs taxpayers less, as it does not pay EU students to come here.

When the 30 year borrowing rate briefly spiked at 4.8% for a day under Truss the government could borrow for under 4% most days that year. Today the rate surged again to 5.8%, costing taxpayers so much more. Reeves has never been able to borrow as cheaply as in 2022.

In the Lords debate on the economy I set out how EU re set will not boost the UK growth rate. We run a large deficit with the EU. Government policy is to ban or highly tax our previous leading exports to the EU of oil, gas, refined oil products, and petrol cars.

What first attracted the PM to Gordon Brown’s financial advice? Was it his sale of UK gold for £40 bn less than today‘s value to buy Euros ? Was it paying too much for RBS shares losing £10.5 bn for taxpayers? Was it the dire performance of the economy when he was PM?

The EU re set means more young people coming to UK to find jobs and housing. It means taxes on energy and energy using products, a big increase in costs of student support to help EU students, the loss of large amounts of our fish, and a big bill. It will cut our growth rate.

The key feature of the King’s speech will be a massive give away of power and money to the EU. This will make us poorer, requiring tax rises to pay the bill. The EU carbon taxes and new carbon tariffs will put up prices. The extra laws will damage business and non EU trade.
