More money for Wokingham social care

I put the case to the Chancellor before the Autumn Statement for more money for Councils like Wokingham where social service demand has been exceeding available grant aid and tax revenue. I was pleased to see he has agreed and provided £2.8bn more for next year and £4.7bn the following year. I urge Wokingham Borough again to send in the detailed  case for more money so the Council can get its fair share of these substantial new resources.

Great news–I hope Wokingham Council does just that.

Reform to Adult Social Care has been delayed for at least 2 years. Residents are still waiting for the promise made by Boris Johnson in December 2019 to sort our Adult social to be sorted out.
As you know because WBC have sent you copies of our letters we have been engaging with the government for the last 6 months.
    Have a good weekend.

Reply I am still waiting for your financial case for how much extra you need based on caseload and current grant. I have had to argue Wokingham’s case without the numbers.

It’s the LibDems just trying to point score again John, and they are very good at that with a constant flow of news letters, (certainly better at communication than past Conservative efforts) but now they are actually in power they are finding it much more difficult to manage on the Councils finances/budget than they thought, when they were in opposition.
Now the easy target is to blame the Government for all local issues, which I agree does have a bearing, but it was no better when they were in National Coalition Government.
I await with interest how they will cope, I hope they succeed, as they have promised so much over the years.
They now have the chance to prove on all of the past promises made, so I wait and see, as time is still young.
Would be good if both of you could work together for the benefit of the Local population.

Reply That is why I have offered to make the Council’s case on fewer homes and better social care, but need the numbers from them

Agreed, and certainly as a seasoned and experienced member of Parliament of many years standing, I would of thought your contacts and knowledge of parliament procedures would be far, far better, and of more use than a new leader of the Council trying to do his own thing !
Let us hope he contacts you, and together you can make a real difference.
