Vicky Pryce never seems very impressive in my view and yet gets to comment all over the place. She thinks inflation is largely back to target now that the war created energy price rises have fallen out of the system. Well not really the cost of living now for many people is still nearly 17% higher than it would have been had inflation been 2% PA. We need a circa 17% fall in the cost of living to get back to target. A return to 2% (if we get to that about 4% currently so the 17% still going up) still leaves the 17% hike in cost of living in the system. Wages have risen to cover some of this (which is yet another back door tax rise due to fiscal drag and Sunak/Hunt’s frozen allowances).

Both Vicky and Yanis are from Greece. Maybe they should have prevented the crisis there. They seem happier here lecturing on the large amount they have learnt from so many failures. They seem to agree that the future is beyond accurate prediction and unexpected crises happen because they are unexpected.

Although bookcase backdrops often attempt to bolster speakers’ weak content, all contributors here demonstrated high value.
