COP29 Mind the gap

COP 29 was all about money. The COP did not chase up improved national plans to get to net zero, though the U.K. did table one. They now say they can get to an 81% reduction by 2035, without telling us what the cost will be or the extent we will have to change our travel, heating , diets and other CO 2 generating activities.

COP 29 opened with a huge gap between the developed countries currently offering $100 bn of payments a year and the emerging world demanding a minimum of $1trillion a year. After much wrangling a late nights they ended up agreeing a trebling to $300 bn a year by 2035 with the emerging countries saying they will be back for more at the next COP. China declined to join the developed countries in the pledge of a big increase.

The US was represented by President Biden’s people. Will President Trump go along with this? All just expect the US to be the largest donor. What is the UK’s share? Presumably it will mean higher taxes to pay for it? How can the main EU countries pledge large rises when they have large state debts and are under pressures to get their deficits down?

This is not a good time to ask developed countries to pay more. Most outside the USA are struggling with low growth and large deficits. US voters have just elected a new President on a pro fossil fuel policy.

Mind the gap. It is difficult to see big rises in payments in the next couple of years. The 2035 target looks hard to hit

    Good morning.

    . . . the emerging world demanding a minimum of $1trillion a year.. . .

Of which we will pay a fair portion no doubt.

Clearly this CO2 Scam is about wealth redistribution – ie Socialism. Trouble is, it will neither solve the alledged problem, because as we all here know it is not about the cliamate, and what money there is will not reach ordinary people but will be skimmed off by dodgy politicians, NGO’s, corporates and other government departments.

What a waste of hot air COP29 is.

A scam indeed, intended to justify more taxation and to change behaviour.

I see that the Call a general election now petition has passed 1.8 million votes and counting. No doubt the government will ignore it, but the more support it gets it will unsettle the Labour back benchers. So pleased do support it if have not already done so.

Honestly, this is just a gimmick. Our constitution has 5 year elections and Labour have a big majority. The next GE comes in 2029, unless the government collapses and another one can’t be formed. Meanwhile the government carries on in the conceit they are doing right.

@DA; A general election now, no thanks, give it a few more months; the more rope Starmer hands to his talent-less Cabinet stood on the pedestals the better. And more time for Kemi to fend off the unthinking twaddle from Reform that will only put Starmer back in No.10, worst a Starmer lead Libdem/SNP pact.

To put into perspective a similar petition to call a second EU referendum got 4,150,262 votes in autumn 2016.

There was no cause to seek a new EU Referendum, the issue was simple, fully understood and the result clear.

@hefner; To put your comment into perspective, the one calling for another general election has only been running five days, according to the info on the parliament.uk webpage, and currently (at the time of copy and pasting) stands at 2,470,613. So in 5 days more than half the the number the call for a second EU referendum got in the autumn of 2016.

This is complete and utter nonsense.
That’s like calling for a revote on Brexit which this might well lead to.
I voted Remain but not because I’m a Remainer but I thought the timing was lousy. It’s like calling for DDay during WW2 in 1942 (which some wanted). I would have voted against that in 1942 but would have strongly supported it in 1944 when it happened.
And the very day I heard the Referendum result, I immediately got behind Brexit because that was the democratic vote.
Anyway who supports this petition and opposed a second referendum is just being a complete hypocrite and undermining democracy (I hate Labour – who they stand for and do – not them so I hate the sin not the sinner).
        Shame on you.

A general election is an opportunity for a political party to say what it would do in government, and for the electorate to support it if it likes their manifesto. That’s the basis of democratic elections, What we have with the current Labour government is nothing like that. Their actions and intentions now were not put before the electorate. The petition is therefore perfectly reasonable, and no shame on David A. for supporting it. A lot of Labour voters in July are now saying they wish they hadn’t, and it seems right to me to give people a chance to vote on what the government are actually doing and proposing.

All the information on how we reduce emissions are available on the Climate Change Road to Net Zero website.
Regional airports to close, non compliant shipping to be banned. Meat and dairy to be mad unaffordable. Large swathes of industry and farming to be banned
In essence we are to return to pre industrial levels of economic activity.
This is being zealously followed by Milibrain and his acolytes. Heat pumps and EVs are a ploy to get us off the road because ultimately there will be no electricity to charge or run them.
The Climate change act which is supported by the uniparty is a Marxist ploy to bankrupt us so there will be no money for anything no matter what 2TK promised.
Will we ever be told what Milibrain has agreed on our behalf. He was interviewed on the BBC and he looked like a wild man. Absolutely bonkers. Thank the Lord for Donald and Nigel.

The World needs to wake up to what is happening. The constant demand by the UN for a unified one size fits all authority, i.e. itself, to instruct the people what they must do and be instructed to do, is Orwellian. Those leading this movement of one world governance are determination to succeed.
The COP gatherings, held every year for the past three decades is a financing vehicle to provide the UN bureaucracy/One World with funding, in the form of ongoing levies which in the end no nation will be allowed to veto or avoid. The start of world taxation is upon us.
The justification for this demand for money, from nations with wealth, to poorer nations in need, justified due to climate change, apparently, is a well planned strategy/scam.
    It must be stopped.
The recipients of the $300billion/yr. now demanded by the unelected body gathered annually, will be the UN. It will not be Tuvalu or the Samoan Islands of some other small nation member. Those small nations currently aiding the UN’s financial demands, are setting themselves up to become beggars at the UN’s projected eventually rich table. They will be little Olivers, asking for more and getting none of it.
The tens of thousands of bureaucrats who gather each year under the ridiculous banner of Climate Change, see their annual jamboree as essential to project their right to demand funds.
Sadly, the depths of desperation the COP sessions have now reached is best defined by who was the most senior world leader attending, asked to give a brief opening statement this year. None other than Keir Starmer, fresh from his robbing the OAPs of their winter survival funds, and while the UK farmers were gathering to protest the loss of their generationally owned farms. Rural community leaders farms, that will become state owned through taxation liabilities thanks to Keir Starmer.
Interestingly, his willingness to give ÂŁ500 million/year to foreign farmers is a tragic coincidence, being the apparent scale of money the IHTax from farmers estates will provide to the treasury.
The petition demanding a new UK government has reached well over 1 million signatures in less than 48 hrs everyone should sign it. While they still possess the freedom to do so!

Whilst acknowledging the remarks about the UN and ‘one world government’, I find myself remembering two world wars in the last century. Half the globe gone mad, slaughter on a scale never seen before – the second one only ending when a super weapon – the atomic bomb – was used.
Against that backdrop, some sort of world movement, to equalise wealth and resources, seems like a good idea to me. I’m all for ‘net zero’ if a sane, achievable, cost-effective route to net zero can be found.
The current, apparent foolishness of the attempts by some Western countries to impose net zero will, no doubt, lead to breakthroughs that precipitate it.

Equally, as a mechanical engineer I can say with confidence, Net Zero is the most damaging Western World policy yet devised. It will destroy our ability to protect ourselves from weather and other natural disasters.
Should we be constantly seeking cleaner fuel and lower fuel consumption? The answer is always yes, but it must be done in a way that maintains the good reliable energy options we already have. Once something better genuinely comes along which could happen at any moment micro scale domestic nuclear would be an example but until such an alternative is available we must correct the madness of Miliband and his ilk before they destroy our economy and our security.

Maybe we haven’t had WW3 because of the creation of bodies like the EU and the UN. Or/and mutually assured destruction. Who would choose poverty in a third world country when people there can see on their televisions the living standards we have.

    November 25, 2024

Of course it was all about money. The UN, which is pushing the climate change scam, admitted that it has nothing to do with the climate and everything to do with wealth re-distribution.

Ottmar Edenhofer, lead author of the IPCC’s fourth summary report released in 2007 told us: Speaking in 2010, he advised, “One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth.”

Or, as U.N. climate chief Christina Figueres said the true aim of the U.N.’s 2014 Paris climate conference was “to change the [capitalist] economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution.”

Following the latest instalment of the “Climate Change” Carry on Propagandising Franchise, Labour’s Chairman of the Energy Committee has informed British citizens that “Net Zero targets mean they will be forced to change how they live their lives.” Forced, eh? That’s “nice” coming from a supposedly Democratic Government. It would appear that Tyranny is becoming quite a habit for the Establishment political parties.

I hope Trump refuses to fund the scam and pull the UN’s House of Cards down.

The 2035 target looks hard to hit.

Impossible under normal circumstances but even harder when the west is being destroyed economically. These pledges will of course take on more priority than keeping our lights on or having enough food to eat.

It strikes me that developing countries are being greedy about what they demand from the West – they should be thanking the West for having conceived and executed the industrial revolution, scientific updates and so much more, otherwise they would not have benefitted from so many discoveries made by the West.

Instead, it will be the people of the West that pay the price of the insanity connected with the climate change religion. That price is already blooming into something that will destroy the economy of the West – How will developing countries get by without us to help drag them out of their 3rd world poverty?

    1. Original Richard

So the Communist UN/WEF and all the Far left kangaroo insitutions and courts around the world will find that they cannot exist without wealth creating free markets and free speech capitalism. Note BTW that Britain gave the world the Industrial Revolution over two hundred years ago. If countries have not used the freely available information to develop their own industrial infrastructure yo improve their citizens lives in this time then it is down to their inherent culture and not our fault. Unfortunately our Parliament has swollowed the UN Commuinist CAGW/Net Zero scam and decided to send us back to pre Industrial standards of living.

What are these plans to help, apart from filling coffers which will be used to do more ‘claimed damage’ to the world we all live in. If it were only to reduce CO2 then any meaningful lowering will adversely affect food production throughout the world. This is clearly the new world order where we not only pay vast sums to corrupt third world countries and NGOs but have our culture erased by importing low skilled people into the west. The erasure of the nation state through debt, censorship and rewriting of history to turn westerners against their own country and culture gives power to global elites. This is the Brandt Report on steroids. It is increasingly clear that our politicians do not work for us, but for abstract concepts.

When I was working in New York during COVID, major asset managers were lobbying for longer lockdowns to weaken small and medium sized businesses that could be bought cheaply or displaced by assets they owned. The BlackRock meeting with Labour as they make farms available cheaply is happening across the west. Covering prime farmland with solar farms and new houses will drive up food prices. We are being sold out. Fourteen years and asleep at the wheel…can the Conservative Party change or is it happy to continue to be part of the great sell off?

Hoist with their own Petard. The West, through the UN decided to run a scam on CO2 as they thought it could make billions for ‘the right people’ and enlisted paid ‘scientists’ to give them what they thought was legitimacy. They invented the ’97 percent of scientists agree’ lie. Now it has become ingrained and received wisdom among most of the West, the poor countries have seen an opportunity to run their own scam and demand money to ‘protect’ them, though most are nor affected anyway, for instance islands that we were assured would be sunk by now have in fact risen a little etc.

Cop29 conclusively proves these ‘conferences’ are nothing more than a money transfer racket from richer nations to poorer nations. This is all about money and has nothing to do with climate change.

Parliament is by accident or design losing its credibility and legitimacy. Without a modern formal way of Constituents knowing how the person they empowered and pay is voting on their behalf, there is a tendency for the MP’s going off doing their own thing and stroking their own ego.

After-all an MP is our representative on the board of UK.plc, the are running the Company on our behalf.

In a desire for transparency (Its expected of us a Citizen) shouldn’t the same be expected of our MP’s. The COP 29 payout and agreements in a legitimate Parliament would/should be debated and voted on by members, constituents should be updated on how their MP voted. An MP is saddling their constituents with paying and complying. Direct communication is needed no matter how inconvenient it is for our representative

Too much that is going on is about circumventing democracy, the International Criminal Court (ICC), Statutory Instruments (SIs), ECHR, the UN, WHO and many more. All without legitimacy all working to burnish someone’s ‘personal’ self-esteem.

As it stands when the Starmer, Reeves, and the Labour party’s tax raid doesn’t work its not a stretch to suggest that with the intended ‘Assisted Dying Bill’ in the offering and despite all the so-called safe guards, they could then by using Statutory Instruments (SIs), as proven recently, come up with personal interpretations to bolster IHT.

Well-meaning laws and pronouncements do in the hands of some get abused, take a look around, the only defence the people have is a strong Democracy, with a strong legitimacy. That for it to work an MP’s voting record has to be exposed regularly and directly without the need for those that pay to dig around. We live in a world of modern instant communications; MPs regularly use social media to promote themselves but not to inform what they have burdened their constituents with. We need to get to a stage of legitimate General Elections every 2 years to confirm the direction our MP is taking us.

Our structures must be put in the hands of electorate with full transparency in plain English. Even now we have to caveat everything as we know the true meaning will be circumvented and abused.

£70 million announced by the Labour Government to support Foreign Farmers. Who, as in which MPs, in Parliament has put their name on taking £70 million from their Constituents to prop up Foreign Government’s?

I Guess none, Starmer and crew will circumvent democracy, accountability and responsibility at all times. And Parliament is showing they agree he should.

How do you describe just how enormous the Net Zero scam is? It has nothing to do with climate and everything to do with money. Just how stupid are our MPs that they all seem to have fallen for it?
Windmills and solar panels are a disaster, as anyone who has studied the UK weather over the last 150 years will know. An SNR takes up about two football fields and can power a million homes cheaply and reliably. Yet the idiots in the government think wind and solar can do that! Yet, we often have times when the wind does not blow, and the sun does not shine. Our government, of both parties in the last few years, has been and is a ship of fools, leading to a very nasty iceberg!

CAGW is Communist scam to impoverish and bring down the Western democracies by sabotaging their access to affordable, abundant and secure energy. The UN Sec Gen may tell the West that “we are in an era of global boiling” but the UN has ‘climate action’ only at number 13 in the list of ‘sustainable goals’. Furthermore Table 12 in Chapter 12 of the UN IPCC Working Group 1 (“The Science”) report shows there to be no signals for climate change (precipitation, floods and storms) other than some mild warming (0.14 degrees C per decade according to UAH satellite data) leading to some loss of ice and snow. The IPCC WG1 calculate a warming of a mere 1.2 degrees C for a doubling of CO2 (P95), Happer & Wijngaarden using the IPCC’s radiative model calculate just 0.7 degrees C and Shula & Ott have shown both theoretically and experimentally that there is no greenhouse effect at the planet’s surface – only at the top of the atmosphere where the greenhouse gases finally radiate energy to space cooling the planet.

Robert Conquest’s 2nd and 3rd laws of politics are :

    – “Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.”
    – “The simplest way to explain the behaviour of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it led by a cabal of its enemies.”

We are seeing this with our own Uniparty Parliament where all the main parties are fully signed up to the Communist initiated and driven CAGW/Net Zero scam (and mass immigration BTW) and hence implementing not only the economy destroying Net Zero unilaterally but also agreeing to give away money we do not have to foreign countries, even though the UN itself does not consider ‘climate action’ any higher than number 13 in its list of priorities (sustainable goals). The fact that China, India et al are given a free pass to continue increasing anthropogenic emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere shows that our Uniparty Parliament actually believes that we live on a different planet to these countries, or at least have a different atmosphere. As well as denying there was any climate change before the Industrial Revolution. For them, the warming to come out of the most recent ice age which ended just 11,000 years ago and the Roman and Medieval warm periods simply did not happen.

I am afraid that International organisations like the UN are now completely dominated by the third world and the communists in China and elsewhere, who are determined to destroy the West. The idea that we should collectively pay over $300bn dollars is a joke. Dolanld Trump will give it short shrift, and I suspect he will cut payments to the UN or even leave the organisation completely. and who could blame him ?

Whether its climate change or slavery reparations, the third world is only interested in getting its hands on our money. Such are the huge and unrealisitic demands they are making, Western countries will have little choice other than to pull up the drawbridge and look after themselves. That means no net inward migration and no money.

Not only does the Communist inspired and driven CAGW/Net Zero scam mean that we are being unilaterally de-industrialised, our energy made unaffordable and unreliable and deliberately scarce so that we have to change our way of life and money we do not have is given to foreign countries for corrupt, hair-brained “fighting climate change schemes” but our infrastructure is being neglected and degraded so that weather can produce “disasters” that can be blamed on climate change and provide the “proof” for the necessity to further turn the screw on the democratic West.

The UK Govt. has an important choice to make by 5pm GMT (12pm EST) Jan 20th 2025, does the UK choose to work with our closest friend, or our closest neighbors, a forecast economic up-tick vs. a forecast economic down-tick.

COP29 was the annual irrelevance, the usual delegates taking everyone else for fools, every year the same sheeple bleating about next year being to late, give them/us your money now! The sheeple have been saying the same since before COP-1.

I see the BBC trying to claim one of the recent highly destructive hurricanes that hit the USA was the ‘worst on record’ and thus proof of climate change (written as a rhetorical question, of course), perhaps the BBC could inform us how bad the hurricanes were over the southern USA back 500 years ago, or even just a reliable record of their destructive path 200 years ago – or at least tell us how far back the ‘record’ they are citing goes, yes indeed, last months hurricane was the worst since …err… last year, and that’s on record!…

Starmer on TV today says he was reminded a lot of people didn’t vote Labour. In perspective 4 out of every 5 people (80%) on the electoral role never voted Labour.
He of course is being disingenuous as he has said before it is the WEF he will take notice of and not the rabble in the UK Parliament.
The petition he was referring to was suggesting he lied to the British People, just to steal office. To most of us that would infer a degree of corruption by misrepresentation and deception. Something that should anyone, the minions had done similar to secure employment would have led to immediate dismissal.
But hey ho our corrupt Parliament has given him 5 years to destroy the UK without challenge, with out confirmation of his position. By then we will be living in a true Dictatorship, and he and his wrecking ball cronies will have a job for life.

@Ian B; Very silly to bring the “popular vote” into an argument about a new governments legitimacy. After all many believe Boris Johnson had a mandate after the 2019 election, indeed he had a parliament majority, but the party only received 43.6% of the popular vote, much the same as Labour had in 1997, the Tories lead by Mrs T in 1979 & their landslide in 1983.

Your logic would suggest David Cameronhad no legitimacy to be the PM in 2010, there should have been a re-ballot not a coalition (other than as caretaker between the two ballots), and the Tory Party had a very low 36.8% popular vote in 2015.

“[Starmer] of course is being disingenuous as he has said before it is the WEF he will take notice of and not the rabble in the UK Parliament.”

Like them or loath them, the WEF has the ear of most governments, not the other way around (as the conspiracy theorists suggest), what Starmer, and all previous UK leaders, is basically saying is he will take notice of what our UK Plc customers and competitors are thinking/doing – time will tell how Trump plays the WEF at Poker… 😼
