The government which has a passion to submit to harmful international court opinions is surprisingly angry with an actual judgement from a UK court. This contradictory approach is even more bizarre when the court is seeking to accelerate the government’s own stated policy of ending use of hotels as migrant hostels. Can anyone explain this as it seems to mean the government wants to be on the unpopular side all the time?

Do as I say, not as I do is this Marxist governments mantra. Giving away assets and allowing thieves and rapists to stay and quoting International Law whatever that is.
Ten out of ten for the judgement and let everyone other council take note.
The kick back has begun and the trollops in Westminster have nowhere to hide.
August 20, 2025
It will surely be overturned fairly soo by some appeal judges like the ones who though there was not even an arguable case for Lucy Connelly’s 31 months being reduced or for the obviously unsafe 15 convictions of Lucy Letby to have an appeal!
I am reminded of when I asked builder of mine to “repair” a sash window in a house but his chap decided it was best to replace. He did this with a window that looked very similar but did not meed the conservation area rules. Within days I was threatened by the council, we appealed to planning but in the end we had to apply for planning yet again to change the windows back. Must all have cost us over £10,000 in time hassle and costs for one damn window. They must have had binoculars even to see the difference!
August 20, 2025
I see that some bonkers arms of government want workers to commanded to say “partner” rather than husband, wife, girlfriend… The word “partner” is vague, misleading & fairly useless as you do not know if it is a business partner, a gay partner, a partner for that evening, a civil partner or a wife for the past 20 years+.
What next? Will we have to say bunch of flowers rather than a bunch of tulips, daffodils, lily of the valley, roses, freesias, dahlias, snow drops… rather than be rather better informed?
August 20, 2025
‘ Can anyone explain this as it seems to mean the government wants to be on the unpopular side all the time?’
It means the government had the wrong judge in place for this case.
They need to copy the American practice of routing trials through courts sympathetic to government policy.
August 20, 2025
@Lifelogic – it will take the agreement of at least 50% of our legislators to change the Law, we need those that are against freedoms and democracy to stand up an be identified so we in a more civilised way can cause their removal
August 20, 2025
That’s what the BDI does. It allows them to self select.
August 20, 2025
These planners have ruined beautiful market towns and cities across the country. And then fiddle about, wasting time and money and energy and imagination with sash windows ..
August 20, 2025
@Ian wragg & LL, +1 totally agree
There will be no change until we can find our way back to democracy and basic freedoms. It is needed to be highlighted, that mutually reciprocated treaties and agreements are a 2 way street. A set of directions we all take while the playing field is level, they are not Laws, they are not International Laws there is no such thing.
August 20, 2025
You’re just indulging in UK-Maga-style anger. We all know Labour is cr-p. The question is how do we rebuild Tory Party to get back into power – and to be TOUGH yes, but also to have a positive, happy vision for the future. It’s like, more and more, wanting to be happy / having a positive vision for the future is seen as a sin. And that only anger will do. No. We need far more than just anger.
August 20, 2025
So these migrant men will be housed in HMOs in our streets.
Please don’t tell me that we paid politicians to do this to us over the last 30 years.
August 20, 2025
Yes that’s what we did.
August 20, 2025
Also narcissistic mantra.
August 20, 2025
It’s because their aim is to provide permanent accommodation for all the incoming migrants and injunctions on hotels mean they have less time to develop the necessary legislative/coercionary arrangements.
August 20, 2025
MPC
It certainly looks that way….I heard on Talk radio this morning, that once the original renters are kicked out, and the higher rent is put in place; the HMO’s get brand new furniture, white goods, etc the lot. That doesn’t sound very temporary to me!
August 20, 2025
At last a sensible judgement from our legal system, a refugee holding centre/structure (for that sole use) can no longer be classified as a Hotel.
The Government fought this decision until the very end, well done to the people of Essex, and to the Local Authority concerned about its community.
August 20, 2025
Perhaps it’s because people the government hates – ordinary decent citizens – have won.
When people like that look Far Right to you, it just shows how Far Left you are.
August 20, 2025
Well we have hardly won. May people are paying 70% plus of their earning for generally piss poor public services. This is surely 70% modern slavery?
Now we have Reeves looking a CGT on main homes. So you sell you home any perhaps pay a 28% tax then when you drop dead they want another 40% of assets over just £325k per person (now devalued to circa £200k in real terms).
Even the existing taxes can over a few years easily take 90% of your wealth off you.
August 20, 2025
Invest in the UK and leave 95% to the state over say 20 years. Sounds like a great investment!

Japan Proves Excess Deaths in the (Covid) Vaccinated.
Dr John Campbell on youtube yesterday. How is Sunak’s apology to the House coming on? Is he having difficulty wording it? Deciding whether to say it was a blatant lie or if he was just absurdly ignorant and had not looked on inquired properly at the time must be rather tricky?
£400 billion borrowed and then spent doing vast net harm on Covid Vaccines and Lockdowns – thanks v. much Sunak, Boris, the MHRA, Sir Chris Whittey and all those ‘experts’.
August 20, 2025
4+ times more likely if vaccinated at about 120 days post dose the more doses the worse it gets. This with a large sample size of 18 million!
August 20, 2025
The goods from these appalling statistics is that the thousands of excess deaths of the “vaccinated” does seem to revert to the lower unvaccinated rate after about 12 months. Though there are also the “vaccine” injured of course.
For the MHRA and Health England to have been doing their jobs properly they should certainly have been monitoring all this in real time and Boris/Sunak etc. should have been kept informed! etc ed
August 20, 2025
The good news from these appalling statistics I meant.
August 20, 2025
@LL. That is hugely welcome news about a reversal after 12 months. If our MSM weren’t in the pockets of government, they’d be celebrating it. Instead, they’re burying it.
August 20, 2025
The report I’ve seen is consideration of CGT only for properties over £1.5million. The average house price in the UK is about £275,000, so it would only be relevant to properties at almost 6x the national average and above.
Even in somewhere relatively prosperous like Wokingham, of 491 properties currently for sale on Rightmove, just 17 are priced above £1.5million, so would be completely irrelevant to the vast majority of the population.
Reply That does not make it a good policy. We are losing far too many wealthy people who we rely on to pay all the taxes we currently impose on them.Just the rumour of using CGT as an exit tax could persuade more to leave before the budget. For those staying more will simply not sell, not downsize.
August 20, 2025
In order to discuss the merits of any policy, surely it is important to include all the facts available. Lifelogic’s original post, which made no mention of the £1.5million minimum, did not do that, and was therefore potentially misleading.
There seems to be a stream of potential ideas being floated around taxation and property at the moment, of which this is just the latest one.
August 20, 2025
If CGT is levied at £1.5 £1,499,999.99 will become the ceiling of all sales.
August 20, 2025
No it won’t. Do people decide to earn just £12,569 because income tax starts at £12,570?
August 20, 2025
As a contributing taxpayer your government will be the most expensive thing you ever pay for
August 20, 2025
@Nick +1
The far-right as you call it are the centre ground, those that pay the bills, the decent law abiding people that our ‘hard-left’ Government and Parliament have gone to war with
August 20, 2025
The Government doesn’t care about the British people; it DOES care about implementing Globalist policies intended to import 3rd worlders in order to destroy our national cohesion and create a surveillance and control State.
Let’s hope the judgement is allowed to stand. There is likely to be an appeal and if so, I have no doubt that Two-Tier or Hermer will quietly intervene in order to ensure that “the right” judge is appointed to hear it and “the right” judgement is reached.
August 20, 2025
@Donna – Agreed
It is right we keep reminding people over and over that 2 Tier Kier places the WEF and its Socialist Globalist policies, as he has said in interviews ahead of the British people and the British Parliament.
He is trying to destroy society for the WEF’s other aim of ‘The Great Reset’. The only reset needed is to bring democracy and freedoms back to the UK majority
August 20, 2025
I fail to see what it achieves. The men are still here and still coming – they will just evict more people from their homes and Serco will buy more into the rental market.
August 20, 2025
Soon there will be a lot of very big, cheap houses sold to the Govt. where they will accommodate the criminals.
Will do nothing for the few nice areas remaining.
Personally I will burn everything I have leaving ashes if the Govt is my main beneficiary.
August 20, 2025
My only explanation is that governments past and present are intent on destroying the ethnic, and cultural basis of the UK for what they see as political gain. A catastrophic missjudgement.
Whatever has happened at Epping is merely an Aspirin for an underlying carcenoma. Until that is realised and the cancer is removed it can only help the sale of Aspirins.

Despite Trump’s public reluctance to follow through with his threats to impose sanctions on Russia, the Pentagon has been quietly reinforcing USAF assets in Europe.
1) A Bomber Task Force comprising B-1B Lancers was deployed from Dyess Air Force Base, Texas to Ørland Air Base, Norway in July
2) A large number (over 30) USAF KC-46A Pegasus and KC-135 Stratotanker refuelling aircraft were dispersed to various European locations in June, including Ramstein AB, Morón AB, NAS Rota in Spain, Aviano Air Base in Italy, Prestwick International Airport in the UK and Souda Bay in Greece
3) Earlier this year nuclear capable B-52H Stratofortress aircraft were deployed to Morón Air Base, Spain, as part of another Bomber Task Force deployment. Additional B-52s previously deployed to RAF Fairford have been integrating with Finnish and Swedish aircraft, involving training flights over the Baltic states
4) USAF KC-135 Stratotankers were deployed to Estonia earlier this month and yesterday more American B-1B Lancer bombers, reasuringly flew in formation with Hungarian and Swedish JAS-39 Gripens over Riga, Latvia
5) Additional USAF F-35s were deployed to RAF Lakenheath, supported by KC-135 STratotankers deployed to RAF Mildenhall in June
Apart from Trump’s decision to destroy the Iran nuclear bomb program, some of these deployments would appear to be in response to the large spring Russian/Belarus training exercise near the Kaliningrad Sulawesi Gap. Which in the event of hostilities NATO will have to seize to secure land lines of communication to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The B52H bombers have been deployed in response to the insane nuclear threats repeatedly issued by Putin’s lackey, the deranged alcoholic Medvedev
August 20, 2025
Fortunately, there are some adults left in positions of power to protect the USA and her allies
August 20, 2025
Let’s not get too excited. This judgement will not stop a single dinghy crossing.
August 20, 2025
But the psychological deterrent does impact on illegals planning to come here. But loads more needs to be done in every aspect, agreed.
Threats to our great country we need to consider at all times.
1. Uncontrolled immigration
2. EU/Bureaucracy
3. Socialism
4. WOKE
5. Putin
6. Hostile hypersonic missiles / drones
7. Trump and vulgar American culture and values
8. Porn / dangers of social media
And way more could add to list
August 20, 2025
‘Porn’ according to various reports there are kids getting access to porn which in itself is a horror but also detrimental to their psychological and emotional frame of mind – or lack of (in old days, these kids would be reading the excellent Railway Children or Mary Poppins or something). Porn is just one of mainly social issues greatly undermining the young and our country’s future.
August 20, 2025
The main threats as I see it are:-
Socialism and a state that is far to large and useless with it.
Open door low skilled legal and illegal immigration,
Net Zero Rip off intermittent energy.
Putin, China…
Government rigged markets and Gov. propaganda. Not much that can be done about porn etc. I suspect
The EU. I love Europe but despise the EU.
Trump on balance is a good thing and certainly preferable to the dire alternative offered. He is sound on the net harm Covid vaccines, sound on net zero, anti-war… and you have to admire the way he actually answers questions unlike nearly all other politicians.
That and his self effacing modesty and understatement.
August 20, 2025
@Ed M.
Threats to our country:
1. Our government and establishment
2. Threats to Free Speech .
They are massively scare-mongering, over-egging many of those “threats” you list, in order to openly or stealthily erode our freedoms and way of life.
August 20, 2025
‘Freedoms’ -I don’t see my freedoms curtailed. Not in any meaningful sense. That is just exaggeration mainly by some in the press. There are some serious threats as listed. But at same time, mustn’t allow these to hinder our peace and joy and what a joy overall it is to live in this country! Really.
August 20, 2025
Got you eyes tight shut?
August 20, 2025
‘Got you eyes tight shut?’ – there are big problems for sure. Don’t want to be complacent. But at same time, people in this country have never had it so good (compared to those during WW1 or before when there were no loos, working in horrible factories in the 19th century, plague, poverty. And on top of that, we’re living in the best country on Earth (arts, culture, countryside, London, British humour and friendless in general, and so on). Don’t be so gloomy. Cheer up!
August 20, 2025
‘Got you eyes tight shut?’ – as I get older, I begin to see that about 90% of the UK population is living in either low grade depression (majority) or full-on depression (minority).
Perhaps that’s the real underlying thing that needs changing.
August 20, 2025
The Political Class do not like the people telling them what they should do and then getting one over on them by taking physical action.
They normally get away with things we don’t agree with as the British tend not to like taking physical action against Government.
Most of us will defend a direct attack on Britain, and the Goverment is seen as not defending us from the small boat invasion by lack of action and encouraging it.
The left is very much less tolerent of descenting action from the people than the right and hate loosing control of the situation which has happened here.
The people have started to be in control of fighting the invasion and the left don’t like it.
August 20, 2025
@ John McDonald +1. If it was left to ordinary people to defend our borders, we’d do a better job than our government.
August 20, 2025
Interesting judgement from the bench in agreeing on both planning and safety arguments. Illegal young males may yet be the optic the brings the end of the flood of illegal immigrants to our shores and causes our government to do something about it.
I heard on the radio this morning that there were 400 hotels in use by the Conservative government and now there are 200. That does not give me cause to celebrate. Where have they all gone? There are more illegals this year than last and deportations are not significantly higher so where are these dangerous young men being housed?
August 20, 2025
What’s the problem? In the event of war, POW camps could be erected in quick time. As we aren’t at war, the Royal Engineers I’m sure would be delighted to oblige. I’ve no doubt they could supply good fences to keep the irregular migrants secure.
August 20, 2025
This and the previous couple of governments are always unpopular because they mainly govern for the benefit of the minority, forgetting that in a democracy, the majority wins.
The first government that governs FOR the majority will be a success.
August 20, 2025
The UK uses FPTP voting, to every government of the last 50 years (with the exception of the 2010 coalition) has governed for the benefit of the minority that put them there. Look at some of the recent “majority” vote shares:
2024 – 33.7%
2015 – 36.9%
2005 – 35.2%
The majority loses in the UK and will continue to do so until FPTP is replaced.
August 20, 2025
The 2010 government governed for the benefit of a tiny minority, those who were happy with Cameron and Clegg. Maybe a minority of 2.
August 20, 2025
Ending the use of hotels as migrant hostels is not a solution. If anything, it is making the situation worse. We now have British families being evicted from their homes and large groups of single male migrants installed in their place. The only solution is to deter the arrivals by sending these illegals straight back to France. Do this, and the problem will be solved within weeks. Politicians need to get a grip of this problem. The British people are getting sick of their ineptitude.
August 20, 2025
+1
August 20, 2025
Parliament should be doing what is right and just for their continuants, those that empower and pay them that is their duty. The Courts are there to sort out wrong doing.
The UK Government and Parliament needs to be replaced with the peoples own democratically elected Legislators. The ‘Human Rights’ of the majority needs to be respected.
August 20, 2025
Select your own candidates – refuse those on the Party lists. By definition they are anti- democratic.
August 20, 2025
Yes I can explain it Sir John.
It is because this government tells lies.
August 20, 2025
From the MsM
Police investigate St George’s flag painted on roundabout, The Police?
When are the Police going to investigate the paintings on the California Cross Roundabout. That on offers a great danger to road and pedestrian traffic.
2 Tier Laws in operation
August 20, 2025
Not yet, the roundabout has been entered for an art competion to gain an award. I bet the police would investigate if a red cross on a white background were added. Better add a dragon and a white cross on a blue background to remove the excuse was just far right extremists but British extremists art work.
August 20, 2025
Government wants to be on the unpopular side of all time more likely, surely?
Starmer showboating on Ukraine must send Putin shaking in his shoes celebrating with our depleted armed forces. Trump was telling everyone how every likes him, fake praise indeed.
August 20, 2025
Yes, being:
– This government is not on the side of the people, Epping provides just the most recent example;
– Applauding the judgement would require abandoning the habitual approach of siding always with foreigners in preference to supporting British interests;
– It is never usually easy nor satisfactory to suddenly show support for those who have made one look foolish, inept, out of touch and lost especially when the consequences of so doing are likely to make one look worse;
– Hypocrisy comes easy to those without fixed values, judgement or gumption.
August 20, 2025
Politicians have increasingly dug us into a hole over illegal immigration. When illegals fell by parachute from the skies in 1940 they were, according to the Geneva Convention, incarcerated in POW camps. The none commissioned were made to work. Those I met seemed very happy with the situation. I see no logical reason why the same result should not pertain to illegal immigrants. Dealing with UN conventions and ECHR edicts is no more problematic than resigning from a golf club. The illegal boat people would cease paying the gangs knowing what happens on illegal arrival.
Those already here should be rounded up and incarcerated, an estimated 2 million, and be offered asylum, return to country of origen, return to country of choice that would accept them or long term work camp chain gang employment. As for lack of documentation, I am sure we could produce whatever was necessary, french EU passports for instance. We did similar in WW2 and probably still do, so why not.
August 20, 2025
The explanation is that Marxism depends upon making and keeping people poor. Hence we saw Stalin trashing the economy of the Soviet Union with forced collectivisation leading to famines. Just think how wealthy Russia could be today without a Marxist government with its vast land mass and abundance of minerals. In our country today we see the sabotaging of our energy and industry with Net Zero coupled with mass immigration designed also to impoverish as well as change the electorate. Our PM, before he was elected to Parliament, served on the executive committee of the Fabian Society, a Far Left movement, whose logo is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
August 20, 2025
Surely it’s because they simply refuse to listen to the people of this country? Furthermore, they are strongly supported by Civil Servants within the Home Office wedded to the policy of open borders. A large working majority in parliament and fragmented opposition gives the government a sense of impunity or even arrogance that they can impose whatever policy they choose. Anyone arriving illegally by any means should be detained in secure accommodation until deportation. It should be a criminal offence to enter our country illegally. There should be no right of appeal. This will provide the essential deterrence necessary to put a stop to this crisis.
August 20, 2025
This isn’t just about being physically tough on uncontrolled immigration but also sends a tough psychological message to those planning to illegally come here. The psychological message is the most important as it nips in the bud illegals planning to come here. But being physically tough stopping people also vital. The physical and psychological deterrents working together.
August 20, 2025
I think the Government are angry because they’ve been ‘rumbled’. The public know they have no intention of if stopping the boats, and just seem to think if they put the asylum seekers in hotels, the public wont notice.
It doesn’t surprise me at all that the the Home Secretary tried to stop the action of evicting them from the Hotel on the sly. Well the Public are really furious now, with what is being done in their name, and the taxes being extorted to pay for it,
I haven’t got a shred of sympathy for the Government. They deserve everything they are going to get.
August 20, 2025
Hooray for Epping Council and the Judge in this case. The PM loves the law when it suits him, but is not so keen when it goes against him. It was a disgrace for the Government Barrister to claim this judgment would cause violence on the streets.
The danger is that it will be overturned on appeal, but meanwhile, every council in the UK should take the same action. This government won’t stop any immigration, legal or illegal, until forced to by the people!
Stopping illegal immigration is not difficult; it just needs tough action to turn the boats back to France, stop Border Force ( Farce ) vessels and the RNLI rescuing them, and bring them ashore.
August 20, 2025
Reminds me of Brexit decision.
August 20, 2025
Rozenberg points out today that from 1st September it will be a criminal offence NOT to stop fraud.
Surely misusing hotels, which are licensed and which must offer accommodation on a rolling basis, is fraud?
Landing criminals pretending to be seeking asylum is also fraud.
Let’s crowd fund to sue the RNLI.
August 20, 2025
The Government can simply accelerate the rate of acceptance of bogus asylum claims, even making some automatic as Sunak did. It then becomes the responsibility of local councils to house the newly minted ‘British citizens’.
August 20, 2025
This is what a friend has just written to me. He lives in Sunderland which is swarming with illegals, the locals believe as a punishment for their voting for Brexit.
‘ Where do the hapless fools in government put these people now is the big question? Among the population is the answer, it’s all coming home to roost, as the consequences of treachery letting even one into the country, over years begin to bite for all of us. A well earned victory for the people of Epping, but the beginning of tragic events to come, all very predictable and obvious to many of us with worse to come.’
August 20, 2025
At end of day it is demise in belief of the divine that is destroying this country. That teaches love your country and family and be responsible and hard working and have a sense of humour and to support the arts and nature and to be both salty and soulful and kind and forgiving and modest and unassuming but not a pushover and to have tough love not just soft love, the importance of real friendship and loyalty, of being down to earth and pragmatic but also imaginative and creative, to have a personality, character, warm, a leader, king, nurturing, romantic but realistic, to be able to endure, heroism, the belief in miracles and the miracle-like, and much more.
August 20, 2025
Good Lord. Where on earth did you get that from? Not the Bible!
August 20, 2025
please cease attacking the RNLI: it is a charity and duty-bound to rescue those at peril on the sea.
Start getting at your MP.Mine simply does not respond:unsurprisingly as he is in the front line
and perhaps hopeful of being invited into the inner sanctums.Stop the £500m p/a to France
Stop Chagos and ensure(with armed RN vessels and RMarines supported by helicopter
gunships) these boats do not cross into UK national waters.
August 20, 2025
The RNLI is breaking the law. It is illegal to take part in people smuggling.
August 20, 2025
“Epping council won a temporary High Court injunction to remove migrants from the Bell Hotel”
Read the words ‘temporary’. the UK and its 2 tier justice, you support your Politburo or you don’t. The lords and masters will now be talking to this ‘extreme right-wing’ judge forcing a change of mind, ill health, resigning and/or replacement. Would that cause outrage of course it would, does this Government or its Parliament care? of course not its all part of the plan.
August 20, 2025
To answer your question: the people trying to dismantle the country in order to say free markets don’t work and we must go back in the EU and over to communism, have spent all their lives lauding open borders. Anything short of that is racist in their book. they are hardly going to change now, whatever their staff tell them to say in public.
August 20, 2025
If it was wartime you wouldn’t put POWs into hotels – same thing – find a suitable island up off the Hebrides and give them tents with a food drop once per week. That’ll do
August 20, 2025
This is no win! Clearing out the hotels is part of their plan. Huge corporations, such as Blackrock and the banks, are buying up accommodation being sold by private landlords, who are being forced out of the market by Government legislation. We all know who will be housed in these rentals. Where I live, the British tenants in MOD housing have all been given eviction notices. It’s scandalous, and the media aren’t even reporting on it. Labour wants every town and village in the land to be overrun by their future voters.
August 20, 2025
Certainly I don’t think taxpayers’ money should go on putting asylum seekers up in hotels – cheap tents will do if the government fails to deport them immediately. Anyhow most of them were happy enough to stay in tents before coming here and France did not waste money putting them up in hotels.
Politicians shouldn’t be waiting for Judges to make policy decisions. In any case although planning law is often uncertain and in a grey area I think (although I am not a lawyer) this decision was legally wrong (and aided by the leftism of most of the judiciary) will be overturned. Although most people use hotels for holidays or short stays that is not the case for everyone, particularly contract workers. For instance several years ago around Hartlepool virtually every hotel was full with long term contractors working on the alterations to the power station there. Nobody claimed or would claim hotels accommodating contract workers for many months is against planning law – indeed it was and so far as I know still is officially the case if one stays for more than six weeks at a hotel the stay at the hotel becomes no longer subject to Value Added Tax. As for the misbehaviour of some hotel guests, that is not or should not be a planning matter but a matter for the criminal justice system to deal with such miscreants individually.
So I say let us not confuse what is legally correct with what is politically right.
Reply Contract workers go home at weekends and for holidays.
August 21, 2025
Re Reply
That is only true of some contract workers. I own some flats in Whitehaven where Sellafield and the local hospital employ a lot of people on contracts mainly on one year contracts (usually not renewable) and while some rent flats such as mine (and I now try to avoid letting to contract workers because they stay less long than others) because there is an enormous shortage of housing in Whitehaven I expect some of them stay in local hotels. Usually they do not go home at weekends.

Hi sir john
Think migrants should be in holding canps like they used to be
Rember these people are illegals they are jumping the que in front of genuine people whe don’t know who these people are some are bount to be criminals and terrorist is there some sort of plan to flood Christian countries with muslims they are taking over the uk with the help of our government
My area a nice place to liver and prominent white is know changing very fast the people moving into the area are different thinking people less thoughtful of niegbbours and inconsiderate in their attitudes.
Thank you
