the drop in net migration down entirely to more brits leaving the country…
and the stats being nonsense as the state has no idea about the numbers coming in.

A rise in the illegal criminals forcing their way in that the taxpayer has to pay for. Legal asylum seekers paid their own way and left when told to.

John Redwood is correct in his answer that persuading the current government on a matter such as Net Zero is impossible because it is almost a ‘religious’ belief with them. Maybe Net Zero is the price you now have to accept to get on within the Labour Party. So it is good to put the case against – but don’t expect to gain any converts. Starmer and co when faced with unpleasant facts in parliament usually avoid the issues raised and rely on platitudes and obfuscation.

The questioner praises US IT companies but does not give the full picture. US IT relies on a lot of Indians on HB1 visas. AI will soon reduces swathes of jobs within IT and elsewhere.

America has allowed much of its manufacturing to disappear overseas -despite Trump’s promise to bring manufacturing back to the USA.

John Redwood does not mention the value of protectionism for home industries. Most EU countries would not dream of allowing foreigners to buy up their big companies. They have all sorts of barriers to entry to ensure this does not happen. In Britain, governments have for decades been more than happy to sell off England by the pound.

      So tough times ahead.

We all know it has cost between 4 to 8 % of GDP according to OECD and IMF.
John, you can defend it for as long as you wish but 2/3 of the UK population disagree with you// and are feeling some of the consequences every day.
THe lack of growth does not compare to Denmark, Poland, Spain, Portugal and Czech Republic, so your comparison with Germany and France does not stack up either.

Reply Please stop perpetuating these lies. There was no Brexit loss of either 4% of GDP or of 8% and it cannot be both! The 8% was a good guess of how much better off we could be if we dumped more EU taxes and rules to match US growth rates!

@Bill Brown – how about proving and in what context if any the OECD and the IMF suggested such a thing? Then have the OECD and IMF’s predictions ever proved right?

Will we ever know how much Brexit has cost or gained us, when its effects are swamped by damaging government policy?
It’s the current government that has implemented a doom loop. Was that to spite the British people so they can blame it on Brexit?

Lord Redwood, never stop. The Establishment, HoC, HoL still hate the idea they should be asked to step up and manage, they thought they had a free-loading job for life. So the blame game is perpetuated, when it is their own incompetence that is the problem

I wish our news media would report the UK 2025 net migration correctly, they haven’t dropped to 171,000 they’ve slowed the annual increase to 171,000 ……the cumulative net migration figures for the past two decades are ?

Both of course were brilliant and attracted the brightest minds, the brothers McWhirter were the cream of their generation and Lord De L’Isle one of Britains greats.
It’s nice to know that The Freedom Association still attracts the genius of John Redwoods calibre.

Then again… ‘.Economy win as UK-Gulf business deal could raise Britons’ wages and boost GDP by £3.7bn a year’ could not have happend without Brexit. The EU wouldn’t have allowed/permited it

From Guido… Reeves needed Brexit .

Reeves’ ‘Great British Summer Savings‘ targeted cut to VAT is only possible thanks to Brexit. A huge victory for sovereign Britain…

The EU VAT Directive requires member states to apply reduced rates only to pre-approved categories in Annex III, with a 5% floor. There is no freedom to design bespoke rate categories…
The British scheme applies 5% VAT specifically to children’s meals and children’s/family tickets while keeping adult rates at 20%. EU law doesn’t allow that differentiation within a category based on the consumer’s age.

The best win is simply to be an independent nation.
    Like most nations.
Many have struggled and fought valiently over many years to become independent.

Yes it is. To live with your own people. Anybody who denies British ethnicity, cultural and historic existence is not to be tolerated.

Superb…. All the most important things we all need to know about why we should remain outside the EU.

You seem amazingly angry! If Brexit is reversed, it can happen only because a majority in Parliament want it to be reversed. And you told us that the whole point of Brexit was to let Parlaiment decide. You’ve got Brexit but now it’s you that wants to block the freedom of our Parliament to choose our future

Reply. I do want the UK public and Parliament to decide. This government’s loveless landslide was based on a clear promise not to rejoin the single market or customs union. The government’s attempts to break its promises is why it is on 18% support only!
