I spoke to GB News last night about the Chancellor’s upcoming Spring Budget announcements – particularly on support for childcare to encourage parents back into work and the expected corporation tax rise

A revolt against Hunt and his approach to the economy is now a vital feature for the whole country . There is absolutely no incentive to companies or individuals and the only word to to express our condition is ” bleak”. Paris has won over London as a financial centre , shops have closed all over the place , other countries are attracting large organizations away , strikes are everywhere , Scotland and Wales seek to go their own way – and so on and so on . It is up to the Redwoods of this country to now lead the way out of this mess supported by others in the Conservative Party .

Good morning.
Well said, Sir John. And where did you get that umbrella ? Very fashionable.
Reply I bought it in the Westminster shop

Good interview. I’m afraid it will be lost on your leadership who are intent on crashing our economy for reasons we can only guess.

I would have thought by now, the Chancellor would be ignoring any of the predictions coming from the Treasury and the OBR as they have proven worthless.
Is it not a given that reducing the tax burden on Corporations and Individuals actually increases the tax yield to the Treasury? Also, with the reverse, whereby increasing taxes actually reduces the tax income and if true, I wonder why the Chancellor would actually brush off the evidence.
Is he actually running the Treasury or are the Treasury running him, just have they have done to Chancellors in the past? Do the Whitehall mandarins now have too much power for an unelected group of administrators?

I love the “encourage parents back to work” etc.
I wonder what it would take, to get Beatrice and Eugenie to take up jobs as cleaners and shelf stackers?
March 16, 2023
What’s wrong with being a cleaner or a shelf stacker? My Nan raised four children single-handedly after a few years as a hospital cleaner, in the days when benefits weren’t so plentiful! I know plenty of people that fill supermarket shelves and work their buts off, some with very good qualifications, but they wanted a little part-time number to fill a few hours, and Waitrose is a very good employer.
I find your looking down your nose at these occupations strange. As though Royals don’t lift a finger to do anything for themselves. I personally don’t have any problem with very wealthy people and if they employ a cleaner or assistant to help them then that creates work for someone else that needs that wage to live.

I havenāt heard the Budget Speech it starts in a few minuts. But, clearly the Media all have their full press releases and pick up on their favourites as āclick-baitā before the actual announcements.
However it is not hard to extrapolate that there will be ābogusā hand-outs and giveaways announced. Why ābogusā, the UK tax system has been busted over time and never more so under this Conservative Government. Handouts/giveaways are only required because they hadnāt thought through the dire situations they are maliciously causing. All this Conservative Government is achieving is high, very high administrative costs for something that shouldnāt be there in the first place.
March 15, 2023
Quite so!

From the chancellor, I am glad to hear āHeā will contribute Ā£200 million to a levelling up fund. Does that mean the taxpayer who’s money he usual grabs is off the hook.

Tory government economics = death knell

Slideways Rc Drift, a drift and tracks shop in the Concourse Shopping Centre in Skelmersdale, has announced its imminent closure. The reason we are having to leave is down to unmanageable and unrealistic business rates. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/popular-toy-car-shop-forced-26475874

It would be interesting to find that shops’ turnover/profit -v- business rates compared to nearby supermarkets’ turnover/profit -v- business rates per sq meter of floorspace front and back storage.

Why has Hunt committed Ā£20bn of our money to literally be poured down a black hole, driving up energy costs and primary energy consumption to reduce the efficiency of electricity production?
The spending on this should be zero. Spend on real energy resources, not reducing them. It’s clear the lights are not on in the Treasury or DESNZ.
