The mismanagement and distorted editing of BBC media is letting the country down whose name it carries. The US is taking the BBC’s lunch, breakfast time and evening meal. Comcast’s turnover is $123 bn, Netflix and Disney media $45 bn each compared to the BBC’s paltry $7.5bn. The top three US media fast growing giants are now 28 times the size if the BBC , with the recent upstart Netflix already six times the BBC.
The BBC clings to its out of date model of relying on a tax or licence fee, which fewer and fewer people wish to pay and which many can avoid legally. What it needs to do is to grow its commercial revenues world wide. It can soldier on for a bit longer with a “free” BBC UK service paid for by a tax, but needs to recognise this is not the future. The tax will not provide enough money for great programmes and for the new technology the BBC needs to master and exploit.
The BBC has BBC Commercial with a tiny turnover of $ 3bn in a massive world market. Why does it settle for such a diminutive position when it has a proud brand name? Why doesn’t it raise more money, put in the technology, commission the new programmes, market and sell its back book and its new ideas more energetically? Why can’t it make more popular programme instead of sticking with its limited range of soft left Lib Dem type views? Why does it see itself as a campaigner for net zero, the EU and the so called international rules order, when the public want a wider range of views and above all want to be entertained and allowed to enjoy things?
Come on BBC. Change your ways. Expect more of your managers. Get to know the wider audience at home and the huge audience abroad that you have lost or have never engaged. Find out what people want worldwide and sell it to them. Comcast, Netflix and Disney, Amazon Prime and the other great US media moguls can do. Why can’t you?
June 19, 2026
Do you actually watch Comcast, Netflix, Disney or Amazon Prime? If so name some programmes you enjoy.
June 19, 2026
I watch Netflix and there’s sime decent original drama bit I prefer the back catalogue of ITV X.
June 19, 2026
I watch Netflix. There are some very good films and entertaining series. I don’t need quiz shows, talent contests or the sort of news content the BBC offers. Netflix is also a fraction of the cost of a TV licence. I have watched Amazon Prime a few times on free trials. It offered the Reacher series which was far better than the films with tiny Tom Cruise in the leading role.
Catch up TV is also there for the occasional watch if there is a new episode of Midsomer Murders or similar.
The BBC does not need to be a massive enterprise. It should offer a free service. It should not have lost all the sport and it should offer worthwhile programmes rather than preaching to the nation from a particular viewpoint.

Too much trash is provided on TV, but viewers decide what they want to waste their own money on.
June 19, 2026
Comcast owns SKY, Amazon streams Clarkson’s Farm, Disney has a great back catalogue.
June 19, 2026
Yes.
Lots of Korean series on Netflix, such as Queen of Tears, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and The King’s Affection.
Prime (which comes with free home deliveries) – Clarkson’s Farm; Reacher; Jack Ryan.
Disney – Only Murders in the Building; Loki; Mandalorian.

The BBC sees itself as unique. It’s the broadcasting arm of the Guardian and like all Marxist organisations it sees profit as dirty.
Why would it change its ways when under threat of jail it can extort the population.
As for following the government line, the uniparty are happy with that so consequently never address it. Ofcom would rather hound GB news for not following the WEF agenda.

Meanwhile, Burnham wins the by election by a huge majority. Will Starmer fight on to remain Prime Minister, or will he step down?
Starmer says he should stay on for the good of the country rather than for his own benefit. For me, that is just another of his bare-faced lies.
June 19, 2026
We shouldn’t pay a penny to the BBC unless it’s by our individual choice. Even so, that wouldn’t end its bias, as we can see from US mainstream media.
I get my news from the alternative media. At least some of that isn’t government propoganda. As for entertainment, books and podcasts are enough for me. Too much of the visual stuff is packed with unwelcome woke/climate/supremecist etc messaging.
June 19, 2026
W,
‘ I get my news from the alternative media’ .
Comcast is massive but seems to have a poor reputation. I would not want news from the big American corporations that relentlessly sell people a particular line.
The problem is independent media gets crowded out and shut down if it challenges the mainstream narrative.

BBC should be funded voluntarily not by force.
June 19, 2026
You state an excellent option: Payment by results.
June 19, 2026
@mickey taking & @Bloke – market (consumer) choice always creates and drives higher standards. What are they in fear of?
June 21, 2026
The BBC are in fear of so much of the bilge they churn out not being worth consumers buying.
June 19, 2026
Good morning.
I am hearing disturbing things concerning the Auntie and its funding. It has come to light (The Blackbelt Barrister on YT) that the BBC is seeking a universal and compulsory funding system. Essentially an extension of the TV Tax on both the internet and streaming services such as Netflix.
I wonder if our kind host is aware of this and, as he likes to discuss topics such as this, is this a subject that would be of interest to him and the HoL ?
Reply Yes, I am discussing it
June 19, 2026
@Mark B – tax by any means. A way of paying ones self without offering a marketable product or service.
June 19, 2026
I think the BBC should remain as a licence funded organisation.
However I think its remit should be cut drastically along with the fee which should be no more than £50 per year.
Light entertainment and opinion pieces must not form part of a service that is paid for through menaces, crown jewels of sport should be and their news service should be subscription only. The BBC should be a public service broadcaster with other channels funded by voluntary subscription.
June 19, 2026
Many would feel that the BBC is not capable of change. It reflects everything that is rotten about the woke socialist world we are forced to endure. When something gets this bad you have to cut it out.
Just imagine how many aircraft carriers and so forth selling off the BBC’s back catalogue would help to provide.
It may have some great resources but it doesn’t know how to exploit them – sell them off to private companies and let’s have some real competition in global news broadcasting.
At the same time revamp OFCOM and get rid of all the DEI executives and penpushers. That could only help in getting other MSM to be more honest.
June 19, 2026
Steve Bullion – get rid of OFCOM its just another personal self centred Quango that cost the Taxpayer to much.
DEI, the art of discrimination and hatred by any means
June 19, 2026
The BBC is on life support, costing and wasting far more than it is worth to survive. Its fees are continuously paid by too many people with differing opinions about what should be done with it. Any prospect of a cure remains elusive. The unhealthy dependent mess lingers incessantly, draining resources from more valid entities.
June 19, 2026
BBC is more concerned in maximising its licence fee take than it is customer delivery.
Its take on current affairs, news etc, has moved so far away from the impartiality remit that it now infests its mainstream output. On message, whose message? it appears to be a WOKE centred political left-wing ideology based organisation. Intent on bending warping minds to its own personal core beliefs as opposed to providing entertainment and information. It has become a Political Organisation first, every thing else a poor second
June 19, 2026
The BBC is no more likely to change its views than Ed Miliband, Justin Rowlatt, Jeremy Bowen, the IRGC, Owen Jones, Lord Hermer, all individuals or organisations on a mission.
Did Fiona Bruce know what we know now?
June 19, 2026
Like the Government, the BBC has no vision. It is so lefty liberal and woke, the present management can not even see it, let alone see real opportunity for growth.
It reflects a minority view, and will never challenge the liberal woke consensus. Despite its laughable commitment to independence, it never allows an opposing view to be aired. It should be challenging: Climate Change, Net Zero, Global Warming and the EU. When did you last hear anyone on the BBC challenging the consensus view?
It is poorly managed, poorly run. wastes money and is typical of a state-financed organisation.
We deserve better, but we won’t get it under current management and financing!
June 19, 2026
I am afraid that the Corporate Culture at the BBC does not have the appetite for a globally competitive streaming service.
The solution has to be to leave a non-commercial rump in the public sector providing national news, parliament, current affairs and R4 News, R5,RWS,. Then create a separate commercial global subscription business with BBC1,2,3,4 CBBC , iPlayer R1,2,3,4,4X,and the back catalogue with a view to LSE listing with Golden Share.

BBC: employees in USA?
Their partner/in it together/company there is CBS.This company has Democrat blood in it’s veins.Ofcom is aware that BBC’s “telling” of what’s happening across the water is not only selective but outrageously skewed.
Try and get a reply from OFCOM>
June 19, 2026
BBC – The Other Bennet Sister was excellent and well promoted on Instagram.
The BBC should be able to compete with Netflix around the world charging similar premiums in the USA, Australia, NZ, Canada, Africa etc. Perhaps they need to hire a commercian director rather than political appointees without commercial and sales backgrounds of a big streaming service.

BBC is so full of its own importance to the Labour government and vice versa it demands taxing their competitors declaring them Big Tech and need putting in their place. How dare they take away our captured audience it seems and our monopoly of default No 1 pole position on our hard wired remote controller s .
They need a heavy duty dose of 21st Century real world Private Sector experience long overdue.
